Life Coaching or Therapy

How many times have you sworn you would never do something again?

You make a bold statement that declares you are walking away from someone or something.

You are not looking back.

But, then something shifts and your bold statement no longer resonates with you.

I swore I would never go back to therapy.

I just didn't see the point to keep telling the same stories over and over. I honestly didn't feel like I was creating any forward momentum in therapy.

If you have been around for a while you know that I attribute my greatest wake-up and personal life changes to discovering and experiencing life coaching.

Life coaching opened up parts of me that I had buried so deep I forgot what made me me.

Life coaching taught me how to feel safe even when I felt vulnerable, how to trust myself, which has allowed me to be more trusting of others.

Life coaching gave me confidence and increased my belief in myself.

Life coaching changed my perspectives and the way I view our beautiful world.

Life coaching provided experiences and opportunities that I would have avoided before.

So why did I go back to therapy?

I hit a crossroads and needed to stay true to my emotional needs.

I still had personal work to do that was outside the scope of coaching.

Have I given up my life coach - no way.

Coaching and therapy are different and yet they can work beautifully together.

I have clients that see a therapist and work with me as their coach.

WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

The guidelines below were provided from an article by Zencare

WHEN TO SEE A THERAPIST

  • You experience mental health symptoms that cause distress in your life (i.e., anxiety, depression, trauma, disordered eating).

  • You want to heal from past hurts or trauma.

  • You need support navigating emotions.

  • You struggle with interpersonal relationships and want to learn strategies to feel less impacted by others.

  • You are experiencing relationship issues and could benefit from couples counseling.

WHEN TO HIRE A LIFE COACH

  • You want to get ‘unstuck’ and set goals you will actually achieve.

  • You feel like your life is on autopilot, and want to challenge yourself or break out of your comfort zone.

  • You want to stop unhelpful habits and replace them with healthy alternatives.

  • You know that your inner critic keeps you from living your best life and you want to learn how to quiet that voice.

  • You desire a life with purpose and meaning but do not know where to start.

  • You feel confused about the next chapter in your life (i.e. struggling with career decisions, major life choices) and would like guidance on what would best serve you.

  • You know that you have a lot to feel grateful for but something is missing and you need that extra inspiration to piece your puzzle together.

  • You want to tap your inner motivation for a major goal, such as running a marathon.

  • You want to hold yourself more accountable, whether in your personal or professional life

Personal growth looks different for all of us and you have trust your path and where it leads you.

For me to serve my clients on a deep level I have to be willing to go deep with myself.

I have to be honest with my life even if it means sharing that I did something I said I would never do again.

So, sometimes going back to something you swore you would NEVER do again isn't a bad thing.
